What happens in the 90 minutes

  1. Min 0–25

    Diamond literacy, plain English

Cut, colour, clarity, carat, what each one does to a stone face-up, and the order a serious bench thinks about them in. Cut first, colour second, clarity third, carat last (in trade-off priority, not importance). We draw on a notepad. You ask whatever you want.

  2. Min 25–55

Three to five stones, side by side

Candidate stones laid out on the daylight tray. Each one comes with its GIA Diamond Grading Report on the desk between us. You see them face-up at arm’s length, then under loupe at 10×, then under microscope for the inclusion plot match. The trade-offs become visible.

  3. Min 55–75

    Lifestyle and budget conversation

How the wearer actually lives. Active hands or careful hands. Yellow gold or white. Solitaire or three-stone or halo. What the budget ceiling really is, and what percentage of it should sit in the centre stone vs the setting. No assumption about what you should want.

  4. Min 75–85

    Honest answer on the budget

What the budget can and cannot do at this market price, from a cutting house that knows the wholesale floor. If a smaller budget is sufficient, we say so. If stretching makes a meaningful difference, we say that too. This is the part chain stores do not do, because the incentive is wrong.

  5. Min 85–90

    Written summary, hand-out

A one-page printed summary of what we covered, the stones we showed, the GIA report numbers, the price points. You take it home. You decide on your timeline. We do not chase. If you want to come back, we make a second appointment in a fresh frame of mind.

What this appointment will not do

Some of what makes the Confidence Session different is the explicit list of patterns it does not use. As a matter of bench policy, you will not encounter:

  • Today-only pricing or "this stone will be gone tomorrow" urgency claims about specific stones.
  • Promotional discounts off a marked-up sticker price. There is no sticker. The price is the price.
  • Pressure to upgrade the centre stone you walked in interested in. We tell you what is honest about it; we do not steer for margin.
  • Suggestions that you "deserve" a particular stone, or that a particular setting "shows commitment". Neither claim has anything to do with diamonds.
  • Sales-script questions designed to corner you into a yes. We follow what you actually want, not what we want you to want.
  • Phone or email follow-up unless you ask for it. The appointment ends when it ends.

The audit version of this is short: we will never pressure you to decide on the spot. The longer version is the list above, and it is the same in writing and in practice.

Who this session is for

  • First-time buyers who want to understand the decision before committing to it.
  • Nervous buyers who have read enough online to be confused and want a single trusted reference point.
  • Comparison shoppers who have seen stones at one or two retailers already and want a candid second opinion from a cutting house.
  • Couples buying together who want the conversation to happen across one desk in private rather than across two laptop screens at home.
  • Inheritance / heirloom-curious buyers who have a family stone and want to know what it is before deciding what to do with it.

Who it is not for

  • Buyers who have already chosen. If you know exactly what you want and have a tight deadline, we move directly to a stone-viewing appointment, not a Confidence Session, typically 30-45 minutes.
  • Buyers looking for lab-grown stones. Prodiam is a natural-only house; we will refer you to specialists with a clear conscience.
  • Buyers who prefer to walk a high-street shop. We work by appointment in a private viewing room; if you want browse-and-go retail energy, we are not the right fit.

How to book

Email, WhatsApp, or the contact form. Tell us a rough budget band and a rough timeline. We come back within 24 hours with two or three appointment options. Most Confidence Sessions are scheduled within 7-10 days. Same-week is possible if there is genuine urgency.

Sessions run Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 17:00, at the Bedfordview viewing room (Suite F1W6, The Paragon, 1 Kramer Road). Secure underground parking. Use the intercom on arrival. Allow 90 minutes plus 10 minutes parking buffer.

Frequently asked questions

What does a Diamond Confidence Session actually cover?

A 90-minute private appointment, structured in five parts: (1) plain-language walk-through of the 4Cs and what each one does to a stone face-up; (2) side-by-side comparison of three to five candidate stones across grade combinations, under daylight-balanced lighting and microscope; (3) lifestyle and budget conversation, how the wearer lives, what the stone is going to do, what the ceiling is; (4) honest answer on what the budget can and cannot do at this market price; (5) written one-page summary you take with you, regardless of whether you buy.

Will I be pressured to decide on the day?

No. The Diamond Confidence Session is structured deliberately as a learning appointment, not a sales appointment. We will never use today-only pricing, scarcity claims about a specific stone, or any of the other patterns that pressure first-time buyers. If you want to buy on the day, we settle and dispatch. If you want to think for a week or six, you take the written summary and come back when you are ready.

Do I need to know anything about diamonds before I come?

No. The session is designed for buyers who have not bought a diamond before, and the agenda assumes no prior knowledge. If you have read the Reference Desk on this site beforehand the session will move faster, but it is not a precondition. Most first-time buyers walk into Prodiam confused about cut grade and walk out understanding it well enough to make their own decision.

How is this different from a normal jewellery-store appointment?

Three structural differences. First, it is private: by appointment only, in a viewing room with a single buyer or couple at a time, not on a shop floor with three other customers in earshot. Second, it is education-led: the first 30 minutes are spent on diamond literacy, not on showing you product. Third, the person across the desk is the director of the cutting house, not a commission-based salesperson. The incentive structure is different.

What if I bring a friend or family member?

Bring whoever you want. First-time buyers often bring a parent, sibling, or close friend. The viewing room comfortably accommodates up to four people and there is no extra cost or implication of "needing approval", many of the best Confidence Sessions are couples plus a knowledgeable family member who has bought a stone before.

Is the session free?

Yes, with no obligation. We do not charge a consultation fee for first-time buyers. The session is part of how we earn the trust to be considered for the eventual purchase. If you book a session, view stones, take a written summary home, and decide that we are not the right fit, that is a fair outcome and we will not contact you again unless you ask us to.

How is "good, better, best" structured at different budgets?

Before the appointment we agree a budget. At the session we present three or four candidate stones spanning that budget: a "stretch" stone (slightly above), a "centre" stone (at budget), and an "alternative" stone (slightly below or in a different shape). For each we walk through the GIA report, the visible face-up character, and the trade-offs. The deliverable is clarity on what the budget can do, not pressure to pick the most expensive option.

How long do I have to think about it after the session?

As long as you want. We do not place reservations or holds based on a session, the stones we showed you might be sold to another buyer in the meantime, in which case we would source comparable matches when you come back. Most buyers who proceed do so within 2-6 weeks of their first session; some take six months. Both are fine.

If you would like to read the literacy half of the session first, the 4Cs guide and the GIA report walk-through cover the same ground. Reading them ahead does not make the session redundant, it makes it faster, and the conversation goes deeper into your specific brief.
