Engagement Rings for Women · Bedfordview, Johannesburg
Engagement rings for women, made to order in South Africa.
Her engagement ring should look like her, not like a display case. Every Prodiam ring is made to order in our Bedfordview workshop, with the centre stone cut at Procut DCW and set as a solitaire, halo, hidden halo or three-stone in the metal she actually wears. Natural, GIA-certified diamonds, and because we cut them ourselves, the stone is priced closer to the trade than to the mall at every level. Priced on application, with insured delivery anywhere in South Africa.

Start from her, not from a tray
The best engagement rings are chosen the way she would choose them. Look at her hands first: the metal she wears most (yellow, white or rose), how delicate or substantial her other jewellery is, and whether she leans classic or distinctive. A woman who wears fine, minimal pieces usually suits a slim solitaire; someone with bolder taste carries a halo or a three-stone beautifully. We design from those cues rather than from whatever is in a display case, which is the whole point of making the ring to order.
The settings women choose most
- Solitaire, the diamond alone on a clean band, usually four or six claws. The timeless choice, and the one that shows the stone most honestly.
- Halo, a frame of small diamonds around the centre, so it reads larger and brighter. The most efficient way to add presence without a bigger centre stone.
- Hidden halo, a concealed pave collar beneath the diamond that adds lift and sparkle from the side, while the face stays clean.
- Three-stone, a centre diamond flanked by two smaller ones, often read as past, present and future. Substantial and meaningful.
- Pave shoulders, small diamonds set along the band to carry light down the finger, in any of the above.
Which shape suits her hand
Shape changes how the ring wears more than almost anything else. We will show her hand against several before she decides, but as a guide:
- Round brilliant, maximum sparkle, the classic, suits almost everyone.
- Oval, reads larger per carat and lengthens the finger.
- Princess and radiant, modern and bright with a squared outline.
- Emerald, architectural and understated, with long flashes rather than fire.
- Marquise and pear, distinctive shapes that also flatter and elongate.
Where the money should go in her diamond
For a ring that has to look beautiful every day, cut matters most. A well-cut diamond is bright and lively even at a modest size, while a poorly cut larger stone looks flat. After cut, choose a clarity that is eye-clean rather than flawless on paper, and a colour grade that suits the metal: G to I near-colourless looks white in white metal without paying the premium for D to F, and a warmer grade can look intentional in yellow or rose gold. Because we cut our own stones, more of your budget reaches the diamond instead of the markup around it.

Engagement rings for women: common questions
What is the most popular engagement ring style for women in South Africa?
The solitaire and the halo remain the two most-requested styles, followed closely by the hidden halo. A solitaire puts the diamond alone on a clean band and reads timeless; a halo frames the centre stone with a ring of small diamonds so it looks larger and brighter. The right one is the one that matches how she dresses her hands, so we start from her taste rather than from a trend.
How much should I spend on a womans engagement ring?
There is no correct figure, only the one that fits your circumstances. What matters far more is how the budget is spent. Because we cut our own diamonds at Procut DCW, the stone in the ring is priced closer to the trade than to a mall, so your spend buys a better or larger certified diamond than the same money would at a chain. We quote a firm ZAR figure, excl. VAT, before any work begins, and the stone drives the figure.
How do I choose her ring without her knowing?
It is done all the time, and discreetly. We can work from her ring size (borrow a ring she wears on that hand, or we guide you on measuring), the metal she already wears, and a few photographs of styles she likes. We then show you a small, considered selection rather than overwhelming you, and we keep the conversation private. If you would rather involve her, we also design openly with couples.
Which diamond shape is best for a womans engagement ring?
It is personal, but round brilliant is the classic for maximum sparkle, oval and cushion read larger per carat and flatter the finger, and emerald and radiant give a more architectural, understated look. We will show her hand against different shapes so the choice is made on the hand, not on paper. Every shape is cut on our own bench and set to order.
Can you make her engagement ring if we are not in Johannesburg?
Yes. Clients commission rings from Cape Town, Durban, Pretoria, Gqeberha and across South Africa. The stone and design conversation happens by video and WhatsApp, you approve the diamond and the setting, and the finished ring arrives insured and overnight nationwide via Brink-s or G4S, with its certification and a written insurance valuation.
