Mine to finger

Single custody, end to end.

The reason we can speak to provenance is that we do not buy finished stones from anonymous wholesalers and resell them. We buy the rough, cut it, and sell it. Four steps, one operation:

  1. Rough, at source

Bought at De Beers DBCM viewings in Johannesburg under the Emerging Beneficiation Customer programme, or from independent SA diggers we have known for decades. Kimberley-Process documented.

  2. Cut in-house

Planned and polished on our own bench at Procut DCW in Bedfordview, to GIA Excellent cut. The stone never leaves our custody to be cut elsewhere.

  3. Independently graded

Sent to the GIA (or EGL) for an independent report. GIA South Africa is in our building, so re-checking is on-the-spot, not a posted-away unknown.

  4. Sold to you, direct

You receive the full laboratory report on reserve and can verify it yourself before you settle. No middleman whose sourcing you cannot see.

Natural diamonds only

Never lab-grown. By conviction, not price.

We deal exclusively in natural, mined-Earth diamonds. We do not stock, sell, or quietly substitute synthetic stones, and we will tell you so plainly. A natural diamond holds a value and a provenance a factory-grown stone cannot, and the case has only sharpened as lab-grown prices have fallen. If you want the full argument with the numbers, we have published our position openly.

Ethical diamonds: common questions

Are Prodiam’s diamonds conflict-free and ethically sourced?

Yes. Every parcel that enters our hands is documented under the Kimberley Process, the international certification scheme that keeps conflict diamonds out of the legitimate trade. Most of our rough is bought directly at De Beers DBCM viewings in Johannesburg under the Emerging Beneficiation Customer programme, an audited, contracted channel; the rest comes from independent South African diggers we have worked with for decades. Prodiam Trading and the cutting entity, D and D Diamonds CC (Procut DCW), are licensed by the South African Diamond and Precious Metals Regulator under the Diamonds Act.

Are the diamonds natural or lab-grown?

Natural only, mined-Earth, never lab-grown. This is a position of conviction, not price. We do not stock, sell, or mix in synthetic stones. If you want the full reasoning, including the 2018 to 2026 lab-grown price collapse, read our published lab-grown stance.

How do I know where my diamond actually came from?

Because one operation holds the stone from rough to finished piece. The rough is bought through the De Beers DBCM channel or from named independent SA diggers, planned and cut on our own bench at Procut DCW in Bedfordview, then sold to you directly. There is no anonymous wholesaler in the middle whose sourcing you cannot see. You also receive the full GIA report on reserve, which you can verify yourself against the GIA report-check service.

What is the De Beers DBCM Emerging Beneficiation Customer status?

De Beers Consolidated Mines (DBCM) runs a Johannesburg viewing room where contracted customers buy rough. The Emerging Beneficiation Customer programme is part of South Africa’s beneficiation policy, which keeps more of the rough being cut and polished inside the country rather than exported whole. D and D Diamonds CC has been an EBC since 2019. Few South African houses can claim this status.

What is the Kimberley Process?

The Kimberley Process Certification Scheme is an international agreement, in force since 2003, that requires rough diamonds crossing borders to carry a government-validated certificate confirming they are conflict-free. It is the backbone of ethical sourcing in the legitimate diamond trade, and every parcel we handle moves through it.

Is the grading independent, or do you grade your own stones?

Independent. Every polished stone is graded by the GIA or EGL, not by us. You receive the full laboratory report when you reserve the stone, and GIA South Africa is in the same building, so an independent re-check is available on the spot before you settle. We never issue our own grade in place of a laboratory report.
