We are a working bench, so we can make essentially anything: a design off this page, one of these changed, a piece you have seen elsewhere, a drawing, a photograph, or an heirloom reset into something new. Bring the idea in whatever form you have it and we will tell you what it takes and what it costs, before any work starts.

Renders are illustrations of a design, not photographs of a piece in stock. The stones in the pictures are stand-ins; yours is the one you choose, certified, with its own report.

What an engagement ring costs, by centre stone
An engagement ring's total is the centre diamond plus the setting, metal and making. In our captured H-colour sample, a one-carat stone was about R61 300, a 1.5ct about R148 700 and a two carat about R300 500. These are diamond-only guide prices at VS1–VS2 clarity, with an Excellent cut filter and no fluorescence. We quote your complete ring before work begins.

Both columns show sampled guide prices, not an entry price or a complete ring. The count includes all grades in each weight band at capture. Set a budget for the whole ring, then choose the diamond and setting together.
No two diamonds are the same
A table describes a market, not a stone. Two diamonds identical on paper can differ by a third in price and both figures be right: how well the stone is actually cut and how much light it returns, where the inclusions sit and whether the eye finds them, how strongly it fluoresces, and how keenly that one happens to be priced against the international trade benchmark on the day. We check every stone against that benchmark before we show it to anybody, and the number that matters is the one quoted in writing on the stone you actually choose.

Captured 8 September 2026; guide figures rounded up to the next R100. Colour and clarity tables use sampled medians and percentile bands; rows without a measured range may use a limited lower-priced sample. Prices and availability can change. Your written quote identifies the actual stone and all inclusions.
How an engagement ring is made to order
Choose the setting and the stone, or brief us and we will propose both. From approved brief to finished ring is usually three to five weeks. Ring sizing and a written insurance valuation are included. 18k white, yellow or rose gold, or platinum; the matching wedding band is made to sit flush.

Brief
Tell us the centre-stone shape and carat, the colour and clarity range, the setting style, the metal, the finger size, your budget and your deadline. We respond within 24 hours, in person, by video or on WhatsApp.
- 02
Stone & quote
We source the centre diamond to order from the certified trade, or cut it on our own bench, and quote you a firm rand figure with VAT and delivery before any work begins.
- 03
Design & sign-off
The setting is drawn up, by CAD render where helpful, and adjusted until you are happy. Any matched side or halo stones are calibrated on the bench to sit true around the centre.
- 04
Cast, set & finish
The ring is cast in 18k white, yellow or rose gold, or platinum, each diamond is set at the bench, and the piece is hand-polished to a mirror finish, then checked under loupe and microscope.

Presentation at the Bedfordview studio by appointment, or insured overnight courier nationwide via Brink’s or G4S. The centre-diamond grading report and a written insurance valuation are included.
Engagement rings in South Africa: common questions
How much does an engagement ring cost in South Africa?
Your complete-ring price includes the centre diamond, setting, metal, any side stones and the making. The dated examples above price the loose centre diamond only, including VAT and delivery; they are not finished-ring prices. Start with your total ring budget and preferred style, then ask us for a written quote that includes the entire ring. Carat, cut, colour, clarity, the individual stone and the complexity of the setting all affect the figure.
Where is the best place to buy an engagement ring in South Africa?
Look for a seller who lets you compare the actual diamond, its grading report, the setting and the complete price before committing. Prodiam makes engagement rings to order in Bedfordview, Johannesburg. Some centre diamonds are cut in-house and others are sourced through the certified trade. You can visit by appointment or discuss the design by video and WhatsApp, with insured delivery across South Africa.
Where can I buy an engagement ring in Johannesburg?
Visit Prodiam by appointment at Suite F1W6, The Paragon, 1 Kramer Road, Bedfordview. Bring your preferred styles, total budget and proposal date so we can discuss suitable centre diamonds and settings. Ask which diamonds can be viewed at the studio and which need to be sourced; an online sourced listing does not mean the stone is already in Bedfordview.
What can I choose for a made-to-order Prodiam engagement ring?
Choose the natural centre diamond, setting style, metal and ring size. Solitaire, halo, hidden-halo, three-stone and bespoke designs can be made in 18k white, yellow or rose gold, or platinum. We agree the design and complete quote before making begins. The grading laboratory is identified for the chosen centre diamond; check its report, images and video alongside the price.
How long does it take to have an engagement ring made?
Usually three to five weeks from the approved brief to the finished ring, depending on the stone, design and bench schedule. The process covers diamond selection, design approval, casting, setting, polishing and final checks. Tell us your proposal date at the start so we can confirm an achievable completion date before you commit. Ring sizing and a written insurance valuation are included.
Can I order an engagement ring from another South African city?
Yes. Discuss your design by video or WhatsApp, review the proposed centre diamond and its grading report, and approve a written rand quote before making begins. Confirm the ring size and delivery deadline during the brief. We arrange insured delivery across South Africa, with the centre-stone report and written insurance valuation. Tell us if the proposal is a surprise so we can agree a discreet contact and delivery arrangement.

The Prodiam promise
The quote is free. So is walking away.
Ask us to quote any stone or ring and you get a firm figure in writing within 24 hours, VAT inclusive, with the trade-offs explained in plain English. It costs nothing and commits you to nothing: no deposit, no account, no follow-up campaign. Worst case, you learned the honest number and bought elsewhere better informed.
We actually want you to compare. Buying well means weighing options; it is how we buy rough at the viewings, and it is how you should buy a diamond. Bring any written quote and we will price it like-for-like, and if we cannot beat it, we will tell you so bluntly. Either way you leave knowing where you stand.
One more thing worth knowing: this site shows a selection of our stock, never the full range. Far more passes across the bench than we ever list, so if the exact stone or design you want is not here, ask us for it. It is usually one message away.
