The house cut standard · Procut DCW, Bedfordview
Procut Signature.
A named standard for the diamonds we cut ourselves. Natural, GIA-certified, graded GIA Excellent cut, held under one roof from rough to ring, and signed off by the director. Not a grade of our own invention, a bar a stone has to clear to leave the bench under our name.
What it means
Five things every Procut Signature stone satisfies.
-
Cut, not bought
Most dealers buy a finished stone and resell it. A Procut Signature diamond is cut on our own bench at Procut DCW in Bedfordview. We make the cutting decision on the rough, so the proportions are ours, not a number we inherited.
-
GIA Excellent cut
Every Procut Signature stone carries the GIA Excellent cut grade, the cutter-direct standard, on an independent Gemological Institute of America report. We cut toward it deliberately; we do not round up a lesser grade.
-
Natural and GIA-certified
Mined-Earth, never lab-grown, by conviction. Each stone has its own GIA report you receive on reserve and can verify yourself against the GIA report-check service before you settle.
-
Single custody, rough to ring
Most of the rough comes through the De Beers DBCM viewing room in Johannesburg, the rest from independent South African diggers we have worked with for decades. One operation holds it from rough through cutting to the finished piece. That is provenance you cannot reconstruct after the fact.
-
Signed off by the director
Every stone passes across one desk. Director Darren Etkind, a member of the Diamond Dealers Club of South Africa, selects and signs off each Procut Signature diamond before it leaves the building.
The cutting principle
We cut for beauty, not for the scale.
The honest temptation in cutting is to leave weight on a stone to push it over a carat boundary, because a heavier number sells. We cut the other way. A Procut Signature stone is cut to return the most light, even when that means finishing a hair under a round number. You feel it the moment the stone is under the loupe, and you keep feeling it for the life of the piece. That is the difference between a stone someone bought and a stone someone cut.

How you check it
Nothing here is ours to mark our own homework.
The cut grade is the GIA’s, not ours. You receive the full GIA report on reserve, and the GIA South Africa office sits in our building, so a stone can be re-checked on the spot before you settle. The Procut Signature name does not replace that certificate; it tells you the stone also met our own in-house bar before we put our name on it. Read how to read a GIA report and the 4Cs of diamond grading so the grades on your report mean what you think they mean.
