47 of the 78 rounds below carry their full price; the remainder are presented privately, ask about any of them. Every stone is natural and independently GIA or EGL certified, and the certificate is supplied before any settlement.

How to buy a round brilliant well

On a round, protect the cut grade first: it is the entire reason to buy this shape. A GIA Excellent round returns the light you paid for; a deep or shallow make hides weight and goes dull, whatever its colour. Then buy colour and clarity to the eye, not the paper: near-colourless (G to I) faces up white in a ring, and an eye-clean VS or SI1 looks identical to flawless once set.

And know the threshold trick: the per-carat price steps up at the round weights, so a 0.90 ct round looks almost identical face-up to a 1.00 ct and can be quietly better value. Round brilliant diamonds: common questions

Why are round brilliant diamonds more expensive than other shapes?

Two structural reasons. First, waste: cutting a round from the rough sacrifices more raw weight than any fancy shape, often around half the crystal, so each polished carat costs more rough. Second, demand: the round brilliant returns more light than any other cut, which keeps it the most requested shape in the world, and the market prices that popularity.

The same colour and clarity grades therefore cost more in a round than in an oval or emerald cut. The premium buys the shape that sparkles hardest and holds demand best.

What makes a round brilliant sparkle more than other cuts?

Geometry. The modern round brilliant carries 57 or 58 facets arranged so that light entering the crown reflects off the pavilion and returns to the eye rather than leaking out of the sides. It is the only shape whose proportions have been optically optimised for over a century, and the only one GIA assigns a formal cut grade to.

That is why cut quality matters more on a round than anything else: a well-cut round is the brightest object jewellery can carry, and a deep or shallow one wastes exactly what you are paying the premium for.

What does GIA Excellent cut mean on your rounds?

GIA grades the cut of round brilliants from Excellent down to Poor, judging brightness, fire, scintillation and the precision of the proportions. Excellent is the top of that scale. Prodiam polishes round brilliants in-house at Procut DCW to the GIA Excellent standard, and the grade on each certificate is assigned independently by the laboratory, not by us.

How much does a loose round diamond cost in South Africa?

The stones on this page show their full price, VAT inclusive, and most of our priced stock is round, so the honest answer is on the cards above rather than in a made-up range. Why they differ so much: the per-carat rate climbs steeply with weight and steps up at the round numbers, and colour, clarity and cut move the figure further.
