How much is my gold worth right now?
Weight times purity times the live gold price, that is the whole formula. A gram of pure 24 ct gold has one public price; your item is worth that price times its purity (37.5% for 9 ct, 75% for 18 ct) times its weight in grams. The calculator on this page does the arithmetic on the current figure and shows what we would pay for it today.

How much is a gold bar worth?
Exactly its fine-gold content times the live price: a 100 g fine bar is one hundred times the day’s per-gram figure, a kilobar a thousand times. Bars are bullion, not scrap, so they are not priced at the melt floor: we quote case by case against the metal value, and settlement follows the same FICA process as everything else.

How much is an ounce of gold worth in rand?
The world gold price is quoted per troy ounce, which is 31.1035 grams, so the rand answer is the day’s per-gram fine price times 31.1035. That is also exactly the fine-gold content of a 1 oz Krugerrand, which is why a Krugerrand is never worth less than the ounce price, and usually a little more.

How much is my ring worth?
Two parts. The band: weight times karat purity times the live gold price, run it in the calculator above with your ring on a kitchen scale. The stone, if there is one: valued separately against the Rapaport sheet when we see it, and paid on top of the metal, which is the part most gold buyers skip entirely.
A ring with any real diamond is usually worth far more as two priced assets than as weighed metal.
Is the value the same as what a buyer will pay me?
No, and any buyer who implies otherwise is hiding a margin somewhere. The metal value is the benchmark; every buyer pays under it and the only question is by how much, and whether they tell you. Our rate is published: metal value less 10% on gold that will be melted, with coins, bullion, designer and finished pieces quoted case by case above that floor.
